New Ways to Get Your Daily Fruit Fix

According to the Produce for Better Health Foundation, 90 percent of Americans don’t get the recommended daily amount of fruit in their diet. Our busy lives make it difficult to find time to slice, seed or peel fruit and, often, fresh fruit can be difficult to find during the fall and winter months.

Adults need around four servings of fruit per day and the more diverse the fruit in your diet, the better for your health. Here are several easy suggestions to incorporate more fruit into your diet.

•  Think variety. When it comes to getting enough fruit, variety is on your side: whole or cut fruit, fruit juice, dried fruit and fruit puree are all healthy and nutritious ways to enjoy fruit. Fruit2day makes getting more fruit in your diet a lot easier because it is both compact and portable for anytime you crave a fresh fruit snack.

•  Add fresh fruit to existing meals and snacks. Having cereal, yogurt or oatmeal already? Why not toss in some fresh strawberries, blueberries, kiwi slices or dried cranberries? Or consider adding fruit to salads – orange sections or strawberry slices add some zest to your standard spinach salad. Adding fruit to the foods you’re already eating is a great way to increase your fruit servings.

•  For life on the run, opt for easy fruit options. Stash some fresh fruit in a bag, but make sure it’ll hold up for the day – apples, plums and pears are good choices. 100% fruit juice is another healthful option. One idea is to pack some Fruit2day, which is an all natural, no added sugar fruit snack that combines real fruit bits, fruit puree and natural fruit juice for only 11-120 calories. A bottle of Fruit2day delivers two fruit servings, made up of 5-8 different kinds of naturally nourishing fruit.

•  Make a fruitastic dessert. Grab some apples, blueberries and strawberries and create a fresh fruit cobbler, apple crisp, blueberry pie or strawberry shortcake. A simple fruit salad with all the fruits of the season topped with shredded coconut is also a tasty treat. Fruit desserts are a sweet and delicious way to sneak more fruit in your diet and your kids will love it!
